OVERVIEW

Grounded in nimble and collaborative campaigns in New York State, and based in Albany, our work has been at the heart of nation-leading and market-shifting restrictions on chemicals that threaten our health and planet.

DUTIES AND MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

The Communications Coordinator is the organization’s storyteller who focuses on building the organization’s social capital and reputation. Half of the position will focus on Clean+Healthy communications, and half will focus on communications regarding the NYS Children’s Environmental Health Center (NYSCHECK) at Albany Medical Center.

Primary purpose of the position is to:

•      Coordinate our organization-wide message, content generation and distribution, including managing C+H’s communications calendar.

•      Create and disseminate compelling content that increases understanding of environmental health and justice, draws people to engage and share, and raises the visibility of Clean+Healthy and NYSCHECK.

•      Promote positive public image through effective and timely communications with C+H’s key constituencies, including current and prospective supporters, the media, Board members, policymakers, and businesses, and NYSCHECK constituencies, including pediatricians, family practitioners, health care systems in the Albany Center’s region, and families.

•      Collaborate with the Executive Director, Toxics Policy Director, and Environmental Justice and Health Project Manager in the organization to achieve brand consistency, coordination of messages, and the highest standards for external communications.

•       Help tell our story in ways that translate sometimes-wonky accomplishments into their meaningful real-world impacts.

Duties are to:

•       Help develop and Implement an annual communications plan for expanding the base of supporters via social media, website visits, traditional media, and events that moves people up our “ladder of engagement.”

•       Work with staff and consultants at Albany Medical Center and NYSCHECK to develop and implement their annual communications plan, focused on social media and health care sector engagement.

•       Maintain the organization’s communications calendar across program campaigns, administrative responsibilities, and fundraising.

•       Create, produce, and disseminate written communications (such as monthly Spotlight on Environmental Health, quarterly newsletter, and exhibition and event postcards with collaboration and review by the Executive Director.

•       Expand Clean+Healthy’s and Albany NYSCHECK’s social media presence, boosting views, comments, shares and other engagement on established and new social media outlets.

•       Conduct media relations in support of Clean+Healthy’s campaigns and events, including:

o   Secure coverage of earned-media events by writing and distributing news releases and media advisories and pitching stories to reporters and bloggers

o   Contribute to an up-to-date list of media contacts

o   Attend news conferences to interact with reporters, livestream, and capture videos and photos

•       Monitor and analyze Clean+Healthy’s online reputation to learn and improve.

PROFILE

To succeed in this role, we expect you to be a compelling storyteller, adept at creating compelling social media content, and collaborative, with an eye for detail. You have the ability to work independently and to take initiative.

You enjoy being the storyteller for an organization that builds its identity significantly through collaboration and partnership and which must adapt to shifting external opportunities and challenges. You’ll thrive in a small nonprofit environment where multiple priorities must be advanced simultaneously and where collaboration - within and outside the organization – is fundamental. You’ll need to enjoy engaging with different online applications and seeking out effective solutions to meet our organization’s needs as technology changes rapidly.

Your role is essential to the success of our mission, and we seek a team player who would be proud to shout the good work of our organization from the rooftops as program staff advance advocacy and educational campaigns at the local, state, and national levels.

TERMS

• Permanent position, primary virtual with as-needed in-person work in Albany, and possible travel

• Full-time. i.e. 40 hours per week, with flexible working hours

• Salary commensurate with experience, $55-$60,000

• Benefits include virtual-first work schedule, unlimited sick/personal time, vacation time, health insurance, retirement contributions after 2 years

• Position is paid twice a month (15th and last day), preferably by direct deposit

• Reports to Executive Director, collaborates with entire team
