Sophia Longsworth

Sophia proudly hails from Grenada (Gree-nay-da), the isle of spice in the West Indies. She graduated with her Master of Public Health from St. George’s University in Grenada, and Master of Science in Natural Resource and Environmental Management from the University of the West Indies in Barbados. In 2013, she moved to New York and became an environmental justice and climate change activist.

She works on toxics policies that address PFAS and lead, organizes advocacy days with Clean+Healthy allies, including the annual Earth Day Advocacy Day, and provides support to New York State legislators championing the organization's legislative priorities. Sophia co-leads the national Cumulative Impacts and Mandatory Emissions Reductions team at Coming Clean, and is active in the PFAS workgroups for Safer States. She is also an Adjunct Lecturer of Environmental Science at Hostos Community College in the Bronx.

Sophia is passionate about advocating for populations that have been made vulnerable by the climate crisis, and environmental and social injustices. She hopes to contribute to the improvement of livelihoods through education and policy development. She enjoys being outdoors, watching documentaries, and spending time with her family.
